Lodestar Distinctives

What is special about homeschooling with Lodestar?

We have a unique approach to home education. Educating For Life – EFL – is different from other homeschooling ministries. Although we do discuss academics and teaching methods, we deliberately don’t limit ourselves to simply the nuts and bolts of the hows – how to teach science or how to organize a schedule or how to pass the ACT. Instead, we focus on the whys – the principles and beliefs and purposes that guide your life and your family.

We encourage families to think outside the box and to look historically, biblically, and generationally to create a home atmosphere that fosters the long-term goals of your own family. We seek to have education rather than schooling at home and our main focus has three main emphases: being principle-driven in life as well as homeschooling, focusing on relationships, and using mentorship as the primary teaching method.

Why is EFL a unique support group?

We are unique among homeschooling support groups because we don’t want to simply be a channel for good information and homeschooling ideas. We view ourselves as a community, a vibrant homeschooling community connected by our common interest but developed through relationships and sharing life with one another – primarily though our online community.

We consider ourselves part of the Body of Christ and therefore want to function with love and concern for one another – no matter where we live or what our needs are. We want to share ideas and experiences but also seek to share encouragement and support as we link arms in this special calling to educate and disciple our children at home.
