I was sent an interesting article with tables that I posted on my blog showing the difference in number of math topics covered per year in the US vs. A+ countries (including Singapore). With the number of topics we throw at our kids per year in the US, it's amazing that any of it ever sinks in! http://zerosumruler.wordpress.com/

15 years of no cable tv, no satellite dish, no immediate access to computer (parents only have the password), put books at eye-level and easy reach. It gets them reading every time.

Hi Mr. Piper,
Loved the article. As a mother of a 12, soon to be 13 year old. I find that new perspectives are becoming neccessary for me as I learn how to deal with my teenager. This is article is refreshing, and reminds us all our goal in parenting: to help our children have a good heart of obedience, and a heart of love for God.

Thanks,

Kate

I used it with both my boys. It's great for teaching concepts and the hands-on basis is invaluable for building more abstract math skills and understandings later. I think it's one of the best out there. For those who are expecting practice sheets and daily "do this" plans, you'll initially be uncomfortable. It's "discovery" based learning and the sheets merely guide the child through those discoveries. Once my kids and I got used to it, the Annotations book was unnecessary, but ymmv.
